My Colorado Summer town was -17 F last night. It will be a long time before I try another Winter up there in the Rockies...

Yes, I visited Panajachel y Lago de Atitlan for the first time during my holiday leave from the university here in the EE.UU. Although, the small villages around the lake are more interesting (I visited Santiago y San Marcos) I'm sure as a semi-permanent resident I would also prefer Panajachel because of the reasons you cited. However, I learned many years ago that (for me) a place of enchantment tends to gradually lose its magic when it becomes home, this realization hit home after my relocation to the mountains of Colorado. Still, I cherish all that I experienced in Guatemala and am now considering the possibility of living there following early retirement at age 62. As I write this, we are in the throes of another killer cold wave. My body cannot tolerate these inviernos much longer. Yeriel
